The Barry Thoma award

Nominations are Open!

Each year we request nominations for the Barry Thoma Memorial award. This is the highest award given by our State Association in recognition of furthering our business through service to the association.

To be considered, your nomination must be received by Monday, February 22, 2010.

The parameters of the award

The Board of Trustees of the Washington Association of Health Underwriters established the Barry Thoma Memorial Award to recognize those members who contribute significant amounts of time and talent to further the health insurance industry; who display the character traits and style of leadership; and who promote principals of professionalism and idealism.

The Board of Trustees has further named this award after its first recipient, Barry Thoma, RHU, who set an example for the members of the Washington Association of Health Underwriters.

Nomination Criteria

1. Any member of the Washington Association of Health Underwriters is eligible for nomination except:
   1. A chapter or state president may only be nominated two years after completing their term of office and
   2. A previous award winner may be nominated only after five years have lapsed since receiving the award
2. The individual shall have made significant contributions of time and talent to further the health insurance industry.
3. Display the character traits and skills of leadership.
4. Promote the principles of professional idealism.
5. Be a member of the Washington Association of Health Underwriters.
6. Any member of WAHU may nominate an individual who meets the above criteria.

The Landmark award

Washington State Health Underwriters (WAHU) awarded the Landmark award for 2006.

The Landmark Award honors state association for outstanding achievement and excellence in association. Winners are recognized for achievements that have placed then in the forefront in all areas of association activities. NAHU awards a total of nine Landmark Awards each year based on the membership size of the association. WAHU was one of three given the award in the 400 to 749 members category.

The State Legislative Achievement Award

Marsha Tellesbo awarded the State Legislative Achievement Award for 2006.

The State Legislative Achievement Award recognizes members who have performed special service in state legislative affairs during a single association year ore over an extended period of time. This honor is presented to members making significant contributions and performing outstanding service in connection with state legislative matter by developing and implementing methods to strengthen and improve NAHU’s stance in the industry.
